The Intersection of Race and Disabilities Rights

Sep 25, 2020 @ 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm

The ongoing movement for black lives has ignited a core value of disability rights: anti-racism work. The Boston Center for Independent Living and the Disability Policy Consortium are working together to promote racial equity and inclusion in the disability rights and services work that we are engaged in. We will be approaching this work by focusing on organizational practices, gathering consumer stories that describe health care disparities, and actively looking at where white bias has seeped into our organizations’ culture and ways to dismantle it. We invite you to learn from our process, share your ideas, and discuss ways to bring this work to your organization.

Presenters

  • Sharon King, BCIL Community Outreach and Advocacy Specialist
  • Taciana Ribeiro Saab, BCIL Dorchester Office Program Manager
